Today, the Honourable Dan Vandal, Minister of Northern Affairs announced over $38 million in federal funding under the Universal Broadband Fund and support from Indigenous Services Canada to bring high-speed Internet to 3,611 households in 14 Indigenous communities across Manitoba.

Two of those communities are Berens River First Nation and Bloodvein First Nation who are set to receive both fibre internet and fixed wireless internet by December 2026.

Kyle Prystupa (pictured right), CEO of Shawano Wapunong Investments Corp. attended today’s event to speak on behalf of SERDC. Berens River Chief Hartley Everett (second from the right), and Bloodvein Chief Lisa Young (centre) were also in attendance. Between the two Chiefs is Minister Vandal. The three folks on the left are members of the Broadband Communications North team.
